What is HG?

Hyperemesis Gravidarum is the medical term given to extreme nausea and vomiting in pregnancy.  From my study of it during my own bout with it, only about 1-2% of women are afflicted with this mysterious pregnancy-related disease.  Only about 10-20% of those women experience it throughout their whole pregnancy.  Not only do these women face a horrible physical battle, but also emotional and social as well.  The toll of being so ill leads many to depression, increases their risk of post partum depression and post traumatic stress.  Many women are surrounded by people who have never heard of this disease, not ever hearing of it themselves prior to diagnosis.  These women do NOT have normal morning sickness.  It is NOT normal to lose 10% of your body weight.  It is NOT normal to not be able to keep water down.  Crackers, ginger, soda, emetrol, vitamins, water and any other morning sickness remedy you can think of will not ease the nausea and vomiting.  These women suffer from a real disease that is treated with the same powerful anti-emetics that are given to chemotherapy patients, and STILL their nausea remains.

The purpose of this blog is to provide support for current sufferers, survivors, family and friends, to attempt to join the various small hg communities out there, and to spread much needed awareness so we can fight against this disease!
